James Whale - Film Director, Artist, Perhaps the only openly gay man working in film in the 20’s and 30’s…. One of my gay horror heroes, (which today seems to be filled with them, maybe it’s to remind myself why I’m doing this?) Find out more about this dude here:

It is a shame that he became disenfranchised with his horror films. I’m sure that it was the fault of Universal pictures who are notorious, (as are the other big studios), for stifling ARTISTS. Any hack can make a crowd pleasing film, it’s really not hard. But to make a work of art?
“Frankenstein” and “Bride of Frankenstein”, particularly “Bride…”, remain two of my favorite films of all time and their footing on that list is unshakable. Moments of visual genius that have lasted now for almost 80 years… wow. He, like his work, is an inspiration. While it may have horrified him to think that we as a culture would venerate him based solely on who he chose to sleep with, I believe that his is a name that should be celebrated by our community.
Had no knowledge of this man. I sense some research coming on!
